L.E.R.T members enjoyed an educational night learning how make proper coffee at The Bean in Beeston. Alex provided an entertaining night discussing the whole coffee process. After the demo it was hands on, I must say that past chairman Dave Welsh showed great potential as a Barrsteward Barrista, check out his attempt below.

To celebrate Rob Murdy’s year as chairman members of L.E.R.T treated him to his very own Little Britain experience. He was quite surprised at being cast as Andy as the smart money was on a Captain Manning Outfit. Dad’s army aside he arrived in great style from a stretched pink limousine, thanks go to Darren Hickling for arranging the chairman’s taxi . After a few drinks around Long Eaton we departed for the next location where a challenge awaited.

L.E.R.T members were then set the task to try and eat the amazing Flaming Burger Challenge at the Blue Bell in Attenborough. A flaming feast not for the faint hearted!

The Flaming Challenge Burger is packed with:

• Two flame-grilled 12oz beef burgers
• Two breaded chicken fillets
• Spicy chilli beef
• Melted Cheddar cheese
• Onions
• Crispy bacon
• Onion rings
• And served with a giant helping of chips!

7 members of Long Eaton Round Table attempted the mighty 1kg challenge. But only two emerged Victorious, Steve ” The Bus ” Key and Dr Adam Connor.( Its always the skinny ones that can put it away )

They cleared there plate and got onto the Hall of Flame, complete with a ” I beat the Burger certificate ” I have been told on good authority that Steve was the only one who had a desert as well, tremendous. A fantastic ending for Rob’s year in the Chair.

Didn’t know what to expect but in true tabling fashion you found our achilles heels.

What a way to finish my tabling career with more hair than I joined with when I was thirty.

Thanks again for making the night a memorable one yet again. Big thanks to murdy and Darren as these things take a lot of sorting and you did it so well.

Disco Dave

The Vallée Blanche at Chamonix is one of the world’s great ski-runs, arguably the best in the Alps that is accessible by ski lift. But it is something more than that: it is the most challenging off-piste run in the Alps that a decent intermediate skier can safely and sensibly tackle. As such, it makes a brilliant climax to a week in Chamonix; indeed, it’s one of the prime reasons why Long Eaton Round Table and 41 Club decided to tackle the famous Vallee.

There are two dangerous aspects. The first is this initial climb down to get to the start of the run. You take the Aiguille du Midi cable car – which is pretty spectacular in itself – to above 3,800 metres. Then you rope up.

You emerge from the Aiguille du Midi station through a tunnel and suddenly you see why you are roped. You have to climb down a ridge, skis and poles in one hand, hanging on to a guide rope with the other, for about 100 metres, with sheer drops on either side.

Further down you have to cross a number of crevasses, and there are points where you are vulnerable to an avalanche.  Needless to say all the chaps who attempted the 22km run made it down in one piece, I think it was the cold beer waiting for them at the bar that jeered them on. Well Done Chaps,

Cough! we won’t mention about  the train journey at the very end and that Snowboarders were banned!!!

On Tuesday 13th March Long Eaton Round Table invited Beeston Round Table to a game of touch rugby.
Long Eaton Rugby Club kindly offered to take the rag tag Tablers and turn them into a fierce Northern Hemisphere rugby team.
Beeston turned up with a few young ringers but were no match for Greg, Pierre and Darren who happily showed of their rugby skills.
Daniel showed that his ball skills were not just exclusive to the football pitch and Adam, well enough about Adam and his balls skills!
Ian Dane twinkled whilst Chris kept his teeth pristine with a lump of plastic in his mouth.
Steve The Tree was a mighty foe for all but was happy to race Steve Key and myself to the bar.
A good night of Rugby and Table Fellowship was had by all.

Santa in Training

Long eaton round table got off to a flying start on the first day of there Christmas collections this year. Santa decided he needed some practice climbing chimneys in preparation of the big day. So the guys at Erewash extreme kindly allowed him a go on their mobile rock face. We must say how agile he was compared to all the other climbers, he was up to the rooftops in no time at all, lots of practice we presume. If you want say hi to Santa or just add a little to the christmas collection he will on the long eaton high street again this Saturday. If you can’t make it to the high street at the weekend, Santa and his sleigh will be making the rounds to a street near you over the next two weeks ( see previous post for dates/locations ) All monies raised by long eaton round table directly benefit local charitable causes.

Long Eaton Round Table will once again be taking Santa on his sleigh tour of Long Eaton  for Christmas 2011. The sleigh will be touring around town starting at 6pm each day handing out sweets for the children and season’s greetings to all.

Long Eaton Round Table is committed to raising money to go towards local charities and causes. All monies raised by the Christmas collection help us fulfill this commitment.

Whether you are young, or just young at heart, we would love to see you so please come to the window or the doorstep and give Santa and his helpers a wave!

On Tuesday September 27th  Long Eaton Round Table took part in an evening of Orienteering at Bramcote Park. Orienteering is an adventure sport that tests navigational skill and fitness in order to complete a course in the fastest possible time. The evening consisted of a few short navigational exercises around the park which gave a good taste of what was involved in this adventure sport.
