Month: April 2010
Long Eaton Round Table held their 56th Charter Anniversary evening on Friday 6th April. Chairman Mark Elm welcomed guest speaker, rally driver and TV presenter Penny Mallory. Clubs from around Area 14 and beyond, plus the elder statesmen of 41-Club joined in the celebration at Trent Lock Golf Club. For Long Eaton Round Tabler George Loydall, it was the last Charter of his eventful year as Area 14 Chairman.
Penny Mallory (click here for official website), gave a very entertaining speech that also showed how good a judge of character she is by identifying the real reasons behind the car choices made by some the club’s members. Penny had to step in at the 11th hour for Olympic skier Graham Bell who was stranded in Austria by the Icelandic volcano eruption. By the miracle of technology, however, he did manage to phone in to say a few words and announce his donation for charity auction of the BBC ski jacket – signed by him – that he wore at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.
Organiser and Master of Ceremonies Ian Adkin did a tremendous job to make the evening such a success, despite his microphone style being more WWF than BBC.
